This is one of our latest projects that we consider a flagship in terms of design, content and UX. Rightfully so, it was awarded a silver award in the website category of Tourism awards 2022. Among fierce competition, we were assigned the design, construction and content creation of the digital platform of Chania city’s Tourism Office. The aim was to purposefully, effectively and enticingly present the administrative Borough of Chania as a bucket list tourist destination.
The concept was anthropocentric, framing the tagline Chania “A City of Many Tales” and including real life stories as well as real people who have chosen or were born in Chania. The design followed the storytelling by incorporating Chania city’s color palette which is mainly inspired by the Venetian architecture, putting an emphasis on differentiating yet contemporary typography. Quick animation transitions and a very compartmentalizing structure were used in order to enable an easy and useful user experience. The project was heavy on content, therefore there was a need to conceive a captivating and efficient way of managing and categorizing it in order to minimize the number of clicks yet lengthen the navigation time. A responsive web design was imperative, since most end users are mobile, on the go, away from home and require information fast.
