We traveled to Hydra Island; a tiny island in the Saronic Gulf of the Aegean Sea, that carries a heavy maritime history and a rich cultural background. This piece of land gave birth to courageous admirals, sea captains and heroes of the Greek revolution. Four Seasons Hydra Hotel is housed in a historical building on the beach of Plakes, once mansion of an affluent family of the island. The project required a new branding approach as well as the design and construction of a new website that meets the requirements of current digital trends.
We went for a minimal approach, using soft lines and design forms to help the neoclassical beauty of the estate to speak volumes. We also chose a sot color palette using white and pale blue to represent the building, the sky, the sea. The use of large scale typography as a graphic element creates a distinctive contrast with the minimal volumes and forms. A new set of anthropocentric photographs were incorporated to convey the true guest experience while the diligent selection of typography exudes the island’s cosmopolitan flair.
